The Command & Conquer remaster will finally arrive on June 5 for Steam and Origin.
On Tuesday, Electronics Arts announced the release date to celebrate the upcoming 25th anniversary of the beloved strategy game series. The remaster has taken the first two titles, Command & Conquer: Tiberian Dawn and Command and Conquer: Red Alert, and updated them with new graphics, so they can be played at 4K resolution.
EA announced the remaster in November 2018, and since then, the company has been working on a plethora of enhancements to the games built on feedback from “C&C” fans on social media. As a result, you’ll now be able to enjoy the games with a revamped user interface, updated multiplayer, and a much sought-after Skirmish Mode for Tiberian Dawn.
As for the graphics, you’ll notice the game sprites, such as the infantry, Mammoth Tanks, and harvester, have all been re-polished with textures that fully flesh out each unit. But if you want to enjoy the old-school graphics from 1995-1996, both games will let you switch on the original sprites.
The developers are also taking the same approach with the games’ soundtracks. You can enjoy the original songs while you play, or listen to updated versions, which were recorded for the remaster.
Ultimately, EA is promising an experience that’ll wow fans of the original games. We hope the company comes through, especially after Blizzard’s attempt to remaster Warcraft III, which was derided by gaming fans for failing to meet the high expectations.
The Command & Conquer Remastered Collection will be on sale for $19.99. Buyers will also get the three expansion packs for the two games: Covert Ops, Counterstrike and The Aftermath. EA also says there will be loads of bonus content, too.
Pre-orders for the remaster start today. In addition, Electronics Arts is preparing two special editions. The $59.99 and $149.99 collections will both get you a physical box for the game, packed with the official soundtrack, and other perks.
