Last night, Elon Musk carried out a test of X's ability to live stream games as the service formally known as Twitter prepares to compete with the likes of Twitch.

As Bloomberg reports, Musk did not advertise the fact he was going to carry out the test. Instead, he created a new X account called @cyb3rgam3r420 and streamed Diablo IV for 52 minutes. During that time, the stream managed a maximum cocurrent audience of 1,300 viewers, and a total of 20,000 views.

Today, Musk used his main X account to conclude that the streaming test was a success and that he, "Will try to complete a Tier 100 Nightmare dungeon tonight live on this platform."

After posting that, he reposted a video recorded by X engineering director, Mark Kalman, explaining how Premium X subscribers can start doing their own live streams of games using OBS.

This test is just the latest sign of Musk's intention to push premium subscriptions on X and expand the range of content and features available (as long as you subscribe). Game streaming puts X in direct competition with Twitch and YouTube, and some creators can already earn a share of ad revenue if their X Premium account has enough followers and monthly impressions.
