EE’s launched new 4G phone plans which include access to BT Sport live streams and EU roaming.

The new top tier 4GEE Max plans start from £25.99/month for a 3GB plan and go all the way up to £45.99/month for a 40GB deal. Unlimited minutes and messages are included with all plans as standard.

The BT Sport app lets you access live streams from all of the BT Sport channels, meaning you can watch Premier League and Champions League games on the go as well as MotoGP races and UFC bouts. It’s currently unclear if EE customers will be able to watch BT Sport on TV via Chromecast - this feature is normally locked out unless you’re a BT TV customer.

The 4GEE Max plans also promise access to the ‘fastest 4G speeds’ possible on EE’s network, whereas the cheaper standard 4GEE Plans now cap you at 60Mbps. EE’s LTE-A network (branded ‘4G+’ by EE) is theoretically capable of supporting top download speeds of 300Mbps, although EE says you’re more likely to get an average download speed of 90Mbps - faster than the theoretical top speed of BT’s Fibre to the Cabinet services.

Inclusive EU roaming, similar to Three’s Feel At Home scheme, means you don’t have to shell out £4/day for EE’s Euro Pass, which lets you burn through 500MB over 24 hours.

While the middle-tier 4GEE Plans don’t let you use your domestic data allowance in Europe, you do get 500MB to use as standard, along with unlimited EU minutes and texts. Similarly, if you buy a 4GEE Plan you get access to BT Sport on your phone, but only for six months. It’s unclear if there’s a way for you to continue getting BT Sport once the six months is up that doesn’t involve you getting BT Broadband or a 4GEE Max contract.

EE’s new entry-level 4GEE Essential plans give you top download speeds of 20Mbps and start at £16.99/month, which gives you a puny 300MB to play with - the most expensive Essential deal costs £23.49/month and comes with a more comfortable 2GB.

Noel Hamill, managing director of marketing at EE, said: “Customers want to pair the best smartphone with the best network, so we’ve introduced a new range of plans to offer increased choice and flexibility. This includes our new 4GEE Max plans with inclusive roaming and BT Sport benefits - providing our greatest range of package benefits to date.

“With a world-leading network, great plans and great benefits, EE really is the number one destination for those wanting to get the best network experience.”
