Pros & Cons

Billed as a digital-video kit, the Adaptec DVPics Plus comes with an upgrade card, which was the fastest FireWire card we reviewed—though by a slim margin. (The Adaptec FireConnect 4300 is sold separately for $50.) This handy package also includes the new MGI VideoWave 4 SE DV-editing package and Sonic MyDVD 3 (for creating titles and menus and burning the whole video to a recordable DVD). Finally, Adaptec includes a 6-pin–to–4-pin FireWire cable to link your camcorder to the FireConnect card. The camcorder, unfortunately, is not included.
