Pros & Cons

This first offering from Candy Byte Software is far from sophisticated, but it accomplishes those two important goals of educational software: It teaches effectively, and it's fun.

A little, blue rabbit-like creature roams through five magical realms, solving math problems and earning clues to help him answer a riddle. There are ten different kinds of puzzles that appear randomly, adding to the fun. The game has five selectable difficulty levels, and you can specify which skills you want to concentrate on, including basic math, sequence completion, and time telling.

Parents will appreciate that Mathamagica tracks player statistics. Also, if a kid is having difficulty in a certain area, a built-in tutor pops up to offer instruction. The game is a helpful reinforcement for kids who might struggle with math otherwise. For kids aged 7 to 11.
