The Tesla Cybertruck has lost its No. 1 spot as America's best-selling electric pickup truck.
According to vehicle registration data from S&P Global Mobility, first spotted by InsideEVs, the Ford F-150 Lightning beat out the Cybertruck with 7,913 new registrations in Q1, compared with the Cybertruck’s 7,126 registrations. The Chevrolet Silverado EV nabbed third place, followed by the GMC Sierra EV, Rivian R1T, and GMC Hummer EV.
The Cybertruck has seen a spate of bad press in the last year, from loose trim pieces and failing front windshield wipers to trapped pedals and loss of drive power. Many in the US have also soured on the brand over CEO Elon Musk's support of Donald Trump and his controversial cost-cutting efforts as head of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE).
A March 2025 report from YouGov found that a majority of Americans now have a negative opinion of the company. That came after the EV giant reported its first yearly sales decline in recent history in January.
But while it’s easy to attribute the Cybertruck’s decline to Musk’s antics or ongoing technical issues, alternative EVs may also simply be (slightly) more affordable. The F-150 Lightning currently starts at $62,995 in the US, while the Cybertruck starts at $69,990. Both can power up at select Tesla Superchargers.
Robby DeGraff, an analyst at AutoPacific, told Automotive News that the F-150 Lightning "continues to reward EV buyers who desire a pickup truck with emissions-less practicality and durability," but without Tesla's "negative association, showboat styling, and questionable quality."
