Volvo's ES90, unveiled today, is built on the company's most advanced battery platform yet and is the first with an 800-volt architecture, which charges in just 20 minutes on a 350kWh charger.
It's also the first Volvo with an advanced Nvidia Drive AGX Orin chip, which promises an "eightfold improvement" in AI performance for safety and connectivity features.

The ES90 can also handle bi-directional charging, allowing drivers to power their home or sell back energy to the grid from the car's battery directly.
Pricing was not announced, but we estimate it to fall around $70,000-$80,000. The range is up to 435 miles on the European WLTP scale, but that's typically higher than EPA estimates. Volvo will confirm the details for the US market closer to the vehicle's dealer debut.

Drivers can also protect their lungs with the advanced air purifier, and their ears with "one of [Volvo's] quietest cabins ever" and a 25-speaker Bowers & Wilkins sound system. All these sensory details are Volvo's expertise, giving its vehicles a premium feel.
Other tech features include a 14.5-inch center display, plus 9-inch driver display, powered by Google's built-in infotainment system and Qualcomm's 5G Snapdragon Cockpit Platform. On the windshield, drivers can see the most critical information on a small head-up display.

The Volvo ES90 joins the Volvo EX30 and EX90 SUVs to round out the company's newest EV lineup. It could be an alternative for deep-pocketed buyers who are also considering the Lucid Air ($69,900), BMW i4 ($52,200), or Mercedes EQE ($74,900). Those looking for an EV under $45,000 may be interested in the Hyundai Ioniq 6, Tesla Model 3, and upcoming Kia EV4.
