Volvo's US launch of the electric EX30 is back on track, with deliveries beginning in late 2024.

The small SUV was unexpectedly delayed after the Biden administration hiked tariffs on Chinese-made EVs. Volvo has since adjusted its plans to only manufacture the first batch of EX30s in China and move all future production to Belgium, according to Car & Driver.

US reservations opened in June 2023, and drivers have "been waiting patiently for it to arrive," says Volvo. PCMag spoke to one reservation holder who cancelled their preorder after learning of the launch delay, unwilling to further delay their car purchase.

The EX30 is already on the road in Europe, where it was the second best-selling EV in August, Electrek reports.

Only the more expensive performance trim will arrive in 2024, starting at $44,900 with a 253-mile range. This is the "most requested model," Volvo says. The more affordable, $36,000 single motor trim with a roughly 260-mile range will arrive in 2025, so it's still delayed.

When the single-motor version arrives, it will be among the most affordable EVs in the US, competing with the Hyundai Kona EV (starting at $33,000) and Chevrolet Equinox EV ($35,000).

The EX30 is part of Volvo's new generation of EVs, along with the EX90, which launches later this year as well. The EX90 is a large, 3-row SUV that starts at $80,000. All Volvo EVs will have Tesla Supercharger access starting Nov. 18.
