Sky's new Q TV system will offer a lot of great features to customers, but as prediced it will see ultra HD broadcasts this year as well. When it initially launched there was no word on when sky would move over to 4K, but Sky's Director of Strategy, Nick Herm, has announced that the format will launch at the end of the summer.

Predictably enough for Sky, a company that makes much of its money through sports broadcasts, the service will initially be about Football, but it's also likely that movies will arrive on the service as well. There isn't much TV production taking place in 4K right now, although shows like Better Call Saul and Breaking Bad have both been shot and distributed in the format - mostly on Netflix though, as broadcast 4K is still very rare.

Sky Q has had some mild criticism since launch as it wasn't available to customers unless they had, or were prepared to buy, Sky Broadband. This is already changing though and the first customers are now being allowed to order with no Sky Broadband requirement. Some has also mentioned the fact that Q doesn't offer Netflix or Amazon streaming. This is frustrating, but Sky isn't an open platform so it's not surprising either.

Herm also said that Sky will launch a Now TV box with a digital tuner built in, which will give people access to Sky's services without a dish, but give them Freeview flexibility too. A very clever idea. The firm will also switch on voice recognition too, which will give users a simple way to search for shows they love.
