Sky's deal to show Star Wars is much more than just for the new movie though, it's a deal with Disney for all of its movie output. That means that Sky will have new movies like Inside Out in the first possible window in which they can be shown on TV. That's before Netflix, Amazon and the like.

The good news is that, even if you don't have Sky, the agreement allows you to watch via Now TV which offers cheaper monthly deals and allows you to stop and start the service as you wish. It also doesn't require you have a dish.

Disney also owns US broadcaster ABC, which airs shows like Grey's Anatomy and Modern Family. Sky's agreement allows it access to these shows via its "box sets" feature that allows you access to stream complete seasons of shows in one go (or more moderate viewing, if you'd rather).

If you're interested, this means Sky could be showing Star Wars: The Force Awakens sometime in 2016, perhaps in the run-up to Christmas. The window is about nine months after the theatrical showing, but films like Star Wars will have very long runs in the cinema.
