Apple Sends Out Invites for In-Person WWDC 2022 'Special All-Day Experience'

Apple has decided that, unlike the last two developer conferences, WWDC 2022 will include an in-person event and invites have just been sent out to a lucky few.

As 9To5Mac reports, developers could apply to attend the event between May 9-11, with successful applicants being informed late yesterday. WWDC will remain a mostly virtual affair, with the gathering on June 6 at Apple Park being referred to as a "special all-day experience" for the developer community.

Anyone who did receive an invite will be able to watch the WWDC keynote and Platforms State of the Union at Apple's campus alongside Apple engineers and designers. There will also be a chance to look around Apple's new Developer Center. Beyond that, expect an event very similar to last year with virtual sessions, labs, and lounges in which the wider community can mingle.

The invite was shared by Twitter users Ashwin (@mixtapesareback). It confirms that Apple is giving anyone selected to attend until May 18 to confirm they are coming. After that, the invite will be offered to someone else. The invite also notes that transfers are not allowed, so you either accept and go or reject for Apple to pick an alternative developer.

WWDC is all about developers working on Apple's platforms, so while we aren't expecting any new product announcements, there's going to be a lot of discussion about iOS, iPadOS, macOS, watchOS, and tvOS. However, don't be surprised if Apple also offers some new information about its forthcoming M2 processors.
