Pros & Cons

We included the RCA RCU807 as a proxy for dozens of products that cost from $10 to $75 and roll all your existing, broken, and lost remotes into one. At $35, this one hits the sweet spot: It offers control of eight devices, macros that span multiple devices (turn the TV and receiver on, play a DVD, and so on), plenty of dedicated buttons, and a multiline LCD for information on what the remote is doing. You program the RCU807 by entering product-specific codes; for oddball devices, there's also a learning mode. It's not as simple as the weemote series of remotes, but it has more functionality without being overly confusing.
