Target will start selling Apple's iPad, effective Oct. 3, the retailer confirmed Friday.

All six versions of the popular tablet will be available at all Target stores, a spokesman said.

A selection of accessories including cases, iBook and iTunes gift cards, chargers and more, will be available in the electronics department at Target along with iPad, Target said.

"Target is very excited to offer the revolutionary iPad to our guests nationwide," Mark Schindele, senior vice president of merchandising at Target, said in a statement. "We are committed to providing our guests' with the best products and we think iPad will be at the top of our guests' holiday shopping lists."

The news comes about a week after Best Buy said it will expand its offering and sell the iPad in all of its 1,093 U.S. stores starting Sept. 26. It already sells the tablet online for in-store pickup and at Apple Shop locations within 673 Best Buy stores.

The iPad, which ranges in price from $499 to $829, is also available in Apple retail stores and on Apple's Web site.

In June, Target started selling the Amazon Kindle at all of its stores. Target first sold the Kindle at its flagship downtown Minneapolis store and in 102 south Florida locations on April 25, and expanded nationwide two months later.

My Experience

I started out covering tech policy in DC for The National Journal, where my beat included state-level tech news and all the congressional hearings and FCC meetings I could handle. I later covered Wall Street trading tech before switching gears to consumer tech. I now lead PCMag's news coverage.

My Areas of Expertise

Getting my start in DC means I still have a soft spot for tech policy; Congressional hearings can sometimes be as entertaining as a Bravo reality show, for better or worse. But PCMag is all about the technology we use every day, as well as keeping an eye out for the trends that will shape the industry in the years ahead (or flop on arrival). I've covered the rise of social media, the iOS vs. Android wars, the cord-cutting revolution that's now left us with hefty streaming bills, and the effort to stuff artificial intelligence into every product you could imagine. This job has taken me to CES in Vegas (one too many times), IFA in Berlin, and MWC in Barcelona. I also drove a Tesla 1,000 miles out west as part of our Best Mobile Networks project. Of late, my focus is on our hard-working team of reporters at PCMag, guiding and editing their robust coverage.
