Since the tragic death of Nintendo President and CEO Satoru Iwata, the future of the Nintendo Direct video series, in which he played a prominent role, has been unclear.

Today, however, Nintendo announced that the fan-favorite series will be returning on Thursday, Nov. 12 at 5 p.m. ET.

The new host for the European Direct will be Nintendo of Europe President Satoru Shibata. We don't yet know if the American stream will be hosted by Nintendo of America President Reggie Fils-Aime, or if Shibata will handle the American and European Directs.

We can no doubt expect both streams to pay tribute to the late Iwata, as well as cover the 3DS and Wii games that are coming out in 2016.

Nintendo's roster of games is looking rather sparse on the Wii U, so this Direct can hopefully give fans of the console something to look forward to. It will be interesting to see what Nintendo has planned for the Wii U overall in 2016 considering that its successor, the NX, is set to be unveiled in the first half of the year.

As far as the 3DS is concerned, we can no doubt expect a slew of game announcements for the successful handheld system.

Nintendo's first mobile game, Miitomo, arrives in March. The free-to-play title uses personalized Mii characters to share facts about you with friends.

Nintendo underwent vast restructuring after Iwata's passing. He was succeeded by Tatsumi Kimishima, who was the President of Nintendo of America from 2002 to 2006. Shigeru Miyamoto and Genyo Takeda, who took over Iwata's duties until Kimishima replaced him, became Creative Fellow and Technology Fellow, respectively.
