LG today said it will reveal an all-metal smartwatch at next month's Mobile World Congress.

The Android Wear-based LG Watch Urbane will be similar to the rounded G Watch R, but will appeal to those in the market for a luxury smartwatch, LG said.

Like the G Watch R , the LG Watch Urbane sports a 1.3-inch, 320-by-320 round P-OLED display, but it has a narrower bezel for "sleeker lines." It will come in gold or silver and features a leather strap, which can be replaced with any 22mm wide band.

LG G Watch UrbaneA sensor can measure heart rate and average pulse during exercise, while an always-on ambient mode shows the time in dimmed mode.

The Urbane runs a 1.2GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 chipset, and features 4GB eMMC and 512MB LPDDR2 memory. It has a 410mAh battery and is dust and water resistant. The LG Watch Urbane will work with smartphones running Android 4.3 and above.

"The LG Watch Urbane's classic design and smart features make it the perfect smartwatch to complement our G Watch and G Watch R, which were designed as more casual and active devices," Juno Cho, president and CEO of LG Electronics Mobile Communications Company, said in a statement. "LG Watch Urbane is an important part of our strategy to develop wearable devices that are worn and viewed as everyday accessories, not electronic gadgets."

More details are expected at MWC, which kicks off on March 1.

Android Wear, meanwhile, hasn't exactly been setting the smartwatch world on fire. Of the 4.6 million smart wearable bands shipped in 2014, about 720,000 were Android Wear devices, with the Motorola Moto 360 the most popular of the Google-based smartwatches.

At CES, Sony showed off a stainless steel Smartwatch 3, which arrived last week.

My Experience

I started out covering tech policy in DC for The National Journal, where my beat included state-level tech news and all the congressional hearings and FCC meetings I could handle. I later covered Wall Street trading tech before switching gears to consumer tech. I now lead PCMag's news coverage.

My Areas of Expertise

Getting my start in DC means I still have a soft spot for tech policy; Congressional hearings can sometimes be as entertaining as a Bravo reality show, for better or worse. But PCMag is all about the technology we use every day, as well as keeping an eye out for the trends that will shape the industry in the years ahead (or flop on arrival). I've covered the rise of social media, the iOS vs. Android wars, the cord-cutting revolution that's now left us with hefty streaming bills, and the effort to stuff artificial intelligence into every product you could imagine. This job has taken me to CES in Vegas (one too many times), IFA in Berlin, and MWC in Barcelona. I also drove a Tesla 1,000 miles out west as part of our Best Mobile Networks project. Of late, my focus is on our hard-working team of reporters at PCMag, guiding and editing their robust coverage.
