Apple's new iPhones are now available for pre-order, and it appears that you'll be waiting a bit longer for the iPhone 6 Plus than the iPhone 6 - for now, at least.

On Apple's website, the iPhone 6 Plus is listed as available to ship in 3-4 weeks, while the iPhone 6 is still on track to be delivered by Sept. 19. Those dates will likely slip as more people buy, so put in your orders now if you want your new phone this month.

Pre-orders kicked off at midnight PT/3 am. ET, and some Apple fans stayed up late to get their hands on a device.

It appears that no matter how early you placed your iPhone 6 Plus order, meanwhile, the wait was going to be several weeks.

The phone will hit Apple and carrier stores next Friday, Sept. 19, at which time you can pick up an iPhone 6 in person. But if previous years are any indication, expect long lines (at Apple Stores at least).

Last year was a bit of an anomaly, though. Apple did not offer its iPhone 5s for pre-order (only the colorful iPhone 5c) so anyone who wanted it on day one had to wait in line at stores.

With the iPhone 6, Apple goes big - 4.7 inches on the 6 and 5.5 inches on the 6 Plus. There's the new A8 chip and M8 co-processor, and it will support NFC after an October iOS 8 update.

Pricing starts at $199 for the 16GB iPhone 6 and $299 for the 16GB iPhone 6 Plus with a two-year contract. Apple is doing away with the 32GB iPhone and offering the 64GB for $299 (iPhone 6) or $399 (6 Plus). Buyers can also now opt for a 128GB iPhone but it will set you back $399 or $499, respectively.

On T-Mobile, which no longer offers two-year contracts, the 16GB iPhone 6 will cost $0 down plus 24 equal monthly payments of $27.08 for a total of $649.92 over two years. The iPhone 6 Plus starts at $0 down with 24 monthly payments of $31.24 for a total of $749.76 on a Simple Choice plan from T-Mobile. The 64GB and 128GB models will also set you back $27.08 or $31.25 a month for two years, but you'll need to pay $99.99 or $199.99 upfront, respectively.

My Experience

I started out covering tech policy in DC for The National Journal, where my beat included state-level tech news and all the congressional hearings and FCC meetings I could handle. I later covered Wall Street trading tech before switching gears to consumer tech. I now lead PCMag's news coverage.

My Areas of Expertise

Getting my start in DC means I still have a soft spot for tech policy; Congressional hearings can sometimes be as entertaining as a Bravo reality show, for better or worse. But PCMag is all about the technology we use every day, as well as keeping an eye out for the trends that will shape the industry in the years ahead (or flop on arrival). I've covered the rise of social media, the iOS vs. Android wars, the cord-cutting revolution that's now left us with hefty streaming bills, and the effort to stuff artificial intelligence into every product you could imagine. This job has taken me to CES in Vegas (one too many times), IFA in Berlin, and MWC in Barcelona. I also drove a Tesla 1,000 miles out west as part of our Best Mobile Networks project. Of late, my focus is on our hard-working team of reporters at PCMag, guiding and editing their robust coverage.
