Facebook and Google's Android Market are the top two apps for Android users ages 18 to 44, according to a new report from Nielsen.

Over a 30-day period, Nielsen monitored app usage for Android phone owners (divided into three age categories) to find that Facebook, as well as Google services like Gmail, Google Maps, and Google Search were among the most-used apps.

The Android Market app was consistently the top app for the 18 to 24, 25 to 34, and 35 to 44 age groups. However, the app does come pre-installed on every Android phone.

It's perhaps more important to note that Facebook was the number-two app across the board, used by 80 percent of Android phone owners ages 18 to 24, 81 percent of those 25 to 34, and 77 percent of users 35 to 44. However, the app's extensive reach is not much of a surprise considering Facebook boasts around 800 million users.

Google last Tuesday announced that customers have downloaded more than 10 billion apps in the Android Market—up from 1 billion in July 2010. To commemorate the milestone, it's offering 10-cent apps for 10 days.

"Thanks to Android users around the world, Android Market exceeded 10 billion app downloads—with a growth rate of one billion app downloads per month," director of Android Ecosystem Eric Chu said in a blog post. "We can't wait to see where this accelerating growth takes us in 2012."

Earlier today, Lookout Security said that a rash of SMS toll fraud apps have descended upon the Android Market, although so far they've affected only European customers.
