It seems there's another glitch with the iPhone 4S. Siri, Apple's voice assistant service for the iPhone 4S, is experiencing an outage in locations throughout the country, according to various reports.

iSmashphone was the first to report the outage, which seems to have started around 1pm Eastern time on Thursday. By 5:30pm, it had returned for some users.

Siri must connect to an Apple server in order to work. Once it connects, it chats back and forth with the server to give the user an answer or perform a requested task. For more on what exactly Siri is, check out this explainer.

I tried to connect with Siri on several iPhone 4S's here at the PCMag office, and each time, the service responded to my request with "Sorry, I am having trouble connecting to the network."

Apple did not immediately respond to questions about the outage, and it's unclear which areas in particular have been affected.

Siri is still in beta, so problems in the service's infancy aren't a huge surprise.

However, it's not the first hit the iPhone has taken this week. Apple on Wednesday confirmed that there is a bug in iOS 5 that drains the battery in some devices.

"A small number of customers have reported lower than expected battery life on iOS 5 devices," Apple said in a statement. "We have found a few bugs that are affecting battery life and we will release a software update to address those in a few weeks."
