LG on Wednesday confirmed that its Optimus 2x, known as the G2x here in the states, will in fact receive the Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich update.

"LG is currently in the process of planning the ICS OS update for the LG Optimus 2X as well as other LG high-end smartphones," the company said in a note on its Facebook page. "Detailed information on the ICS OS update schedule for specific models will be announced, once the ICS OS is publicly released by Google. Please stay tuned for more updates from LG."

The update comes about two weeks after a representative on LG's Indian Facebook page said the Optimus 2x would not receive Ice Cream Sandwich. "We will not be introducing Android 4.0, Ice Cream Sandwich updates on LG Optimus 2X P990. Keep watching this space for further updates," the note said in response to a user's question.

LG did not immediately respond to a request for comment when PCMag asked it about the post last week, but today it stressed that ICS was in the works.

"LG firmly denies the rumors that claim LG will not be providing the Ice Cream Sandwich (ICS) OS update for the LG Optimus 2X. These rumors are NOT true," the company said.

Google unveiled Ice Cream Sandwich last month in a joint press conference with Samsung, whose upcoming Galaxy Nexus device will be the first smartphone to sport Android 4.0. It will first be released on Verizon Wireless in the U.S., though an exact release date has not been announced.

Other manufacturers, like HTC and Motorola, have also committed to updating their devices to Ice Cream Sandwich, but have thus far been vague on exact dates.

My Experience

I started out covering tech policy in DC for The National Journal, where my beat included state-level tech news and all the congressional hearings and FCC meetings I could handle. I later covered Wall Street trading tech before switching gears to consumer tech. I now lead PCMag's news coverage.

My Areas of Expertise

Getting my start in DC means I still have a soft spot for tech policy; Congressional hearings can sometimes be as entertaining as a Bravo reality show, for better or worse. But PCMag is all about the technology we use every day, as well as keeping an eye out for the trends that will shape the industry in the years ahead (or flop on arrival). I've covered the rise of social media, the iOS vs. Android wars, the cord-cutting revolution that's now left us with hefty streaming bills, and the effort to stuff artificial intelligence into every product you could imagine. This job has taken me to CES in Vegas (one too many times), IFA in Berlin, and MWC in Barcelona. I also drove a Tesla 1,000 miles out west as part of our Best Mobile Networks project. Of late, my focus is on our hard-working team of reporters at PCMag, guiding and editing their robust coverage.
