Apple on Saturday opened its first store in Hong Kong.

Marked by a glass spiral staircase, the new store is located in Hong Kong's International Financial Center Mall in the city's central business district. USA Today reports that some camped out for two days to be the first people inside the store.

The company also opened a third Shanghai store on Thursday, bringing the total number of Apple Stores in the country to six. It also has two locations in Beijing.

Apple has become hugely popular in China, where iPhones, iPads, and iPods are seen as status symbols. China is an important market for Apple. Sales in China increased sixfold in the last year, CEO Tim Cook said in a July earnings call. He also asserted that China was "very key to Apple's third quarter results," in which the country generated $3.8 billion in revenue for Apple.

"I firmly believe that we're just scratching the surface right now," he said. "I think there is an incredible opportunity for Apple [in China]."

In the report, Cook also mentioned Hong Kong as one of the 40 Apple Stores the company plans to open this fiscal year, 28 of which will be outside the United States.

The Hong Kong store is allegedly Apple's most expensive store ever; local paper Apple Daily said last month that the store cost a whopping $20 million.

It hasn't all be roses for Apple in China, however. The company is plagued with the problems of smuggling and counterfeiting, and it's not just products that are affected. Over the summer, a fake Apple Store was discovered in Kunming, China. The discovery of the first faux store led to the finding of more than 20 fakes in the city, which prompted an investigation by city officials at the request of Apple. The fake stores were forced to change their names and remove all Apple trademarks

Apple has another high profile store planned for New York City's Grand Central Terminal. This location is set to open by the end of the year.
