Groupon could file for an initial public offering as early as this week, according to All Things D's Kara Swisher.

The investment round is expected to be co-led by Goldman Sachs and Morgan Stanley. An IPO could value the Groupon, the top dog in the group buying game, at around $15 billion, Swisher said. Others have reported that a Groupon IPO could generate as much as $25 billion.

Chicago-based Groupon's CEO Andrew Mason confirmed earlier this year that the company was mulling an IPO.

"We've met with a bunch of bankers, we're exploring whether or not it makes sense for us but we haven't made a decision," he said at the Digital-Life-Design conference in Munich. "We're still in the learning phase."

In a separate conversation, Mason went on record as saying IPO plans were "less than 100 percent."

In November, acquisition talks between Google and Groupon rumored to be worth $6 billion reportedly broke down, but it didn't leave the deals site hurting for cash. Two months later, Groupon announced that it had completed a $950 million funding round.

Since then, an ever-growing number of competitors have thrown their hats into the daily deals ring. AT&T is preparing to launch its own service, and last week Facebook launched Daily Deals in Atlanta, Dallas, Austin, San Francisco, and San Diego. Additionally, The New York Times Company also recently launched a high-end daily deals service called TimesLimited, and last month Google launched a beta test of its deals program in New York, Portland, and San Francisco.
