Apple has reportedly pegged New York City's Grand Central Terminal as the location for its next retail store.

According to ifoAppleStore.com, the next store was rumored to be in Brooklyn, but Apple has instead selected Grand Central for its fifth outpost in the Big Apple.

The new location would take some of the stress off the hectic Apple store on Fifth Avenue. Open 24 hours a day, the high-profile store hosts droves of tourists and shoppers. Although it's Manhattan's smallest Apple store, it sells more than the three other shops in the city combined.

Thus, Grand Central could be a logical option because it's less than a mile south, located at Park Avenue and East 42nd Street.

IfoAppleStore said Apple considered a location on West 34th Street near the Empire State Building in the past. Drawings of the proposed store wound up online, but Apple abandoned the plans "because the neighborhood was not upscale enough."

Originally opened in 1871, Grand Central Terminal is the world's largest train station with 44 platforms on two underground levels. It sees 700,000 visitors each day, including droves of commuters and tourists. It was last renovated 11 years ago, and it's home to 68 stores and 34 restaurants in 134,000 square feet of space. IfoAppleStore said that tenants are encouraged to sign 10-year leases.

Apple did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
