Google's AdMob Reaches 2 Billion Daily Ad Requests

Google Responds to NSS Labs Report

AdMob, Google's mobile advertising network, now gets more than two billion requests for ads per day. That's four times more than the number of requests the company was getting just a year ago.

"Mobile usage continues to explode and we continue to see rapid growth throughout the AdMob network of mobile sites and applications," Harsh Shah from the Google Mobile Ads Marketing Team said in a blog post. "Today we receive more ad requests in a single day than AdMob received for the entire month of December 2007. That's a magnitude of 30 times in just over three years."

Google also said that the number of ad requests via Android- and iOS-based devices tops 100 million each month. That's twice what the figure was six months ago.

AdMob has seen the most growth in Asia, where traffic has increased by 564 percent. Western Europe has increased traffic by 471 percent, Oceania by 363 percent, and North America by 266 percent.

Google finalized its acquisition of AdMob last May, several days after the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) closed its antri-trust investigation into the transaction.

AdMob isn't the only company Google snatched up in 2010. In fact, Google went on a shopping spree last year, making acquisitions of venture-backed firms than any other company.

The companies Google bought run the gamut in terms of size and price.

In July, Google shelled out $700 million for ITA, a Boston-based software company that specializes in organizing airline data like flight times, availability, and prices.

In August, it bought mobile payment company Zetawire, a Canadian company that allows consumers to make payments on their smartphones using near field communications (NFC) technology.

At the beginning of December, Google announced that it had acquired Widevine, a DRM and video-optimization company which could be part and parcel of Google's strategy to placate Hollywood and content owners.

Google also bought a social gaming company, an app publisher, a speech technology firm, and a visual search company, among others.

According to the blog entry, AdMob has been a positive addition to Google's growing collection of companies.
