Kindle has added Windows Phone 7 to its list of compatible platforms, Amazon announced on Wednesday.

Kindle's e-reader software is already available on a range of devices and platforms including the desktop, iPad, iPod touch, iPhone, BlackBerry, Android-based devices, and Amazon's own e-reader.

"With Kindle books you never have to worry about what to do if you change devices or platforms," Dorothy Nicholls, Amazon Kindle director, said in a statement. "Our 'Buy Once, Read Everywhere' apps make it easy for you to read your books on any device you choose. We think customers are going to love our new Kindle app on the unique interface of Windows Phone 7 and the convenience of our Whispersync technology, which saves and synchronizes your bookmarks, notes, and highlights between all of your devices."

This comes just after Amazon on Tuesday announced that it will develop Kindle apps specifically for Android- and Windows-based LCD tablets.

Amazon didn't specify the tablets on which its apps will appear, but the announcement came just in time for the annual Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas, where multiple manufacturers are expected to unveil new tablets.

CES will open Wednesday evening with a keynote from Microsoft chief executive Steve Ballmer. Windows-based tablets are rumored to be among the things he will discuss.

Last year, Amazon released an app customized for Apple's iPad. However, when the iPad made its debut last April, it was expected to be a Kindle killer. But it seems the the two are able to coexist pretty easily. A recent JP Morgan study said that 40 percent of iPad owners also have a Kindle, and another 23 percent of iPad owners plan to buy a Kindle within the next 12 months.
