If it's the day before Thanksgiving and you're panicking because you need to find a gravy separator, Google might be able help. The search engine giant announced this week that it is adding local product search results to the desktop.

"Search for a product and click on the 'nearby stores' label, and you can easily find a list of stores to call and check availability, and in many cases, information about whether the product is in stock nearby," Paul Lee, senior product manager for the Google Product Search Team, said Monday in a blog post.

To access, click on the "shopping" tab at the top of your browser window. When you type "gravy separator" as a search term, Google will show you product results as well as which nearby stores carry the item you need. The results also include information about the cost of the product with the option to compare prices, as well as the contact information for the store. Previously, the results would just tell you where to find the product online.

Williams-Sonoma, Office Depot, and Guitar Center are just some of the more than 70 retailers participating in local product search results.

"Local availability provides exceptional, local-level product inventory data, store directions, and phone numbers," said John Kroyl, senior vice president of e-commerce marketing and analytics at Williams-Sonoma. "The key is providing our customers with options and Google local availability does exactly that."

This feature has been available on mobile devices including iPhones, Palm WebOS phones, and Android-based devices since March.

Google on Monday also announced that it has updated the Google Shopper for Android app to include search filters like price and brand.
