Just three weeks after it opened, the Windows Phone 7 Marketplace has reached a milestone: it now features 1,000 apps.

It took about seven months for the Windows Mobile Marketplace to achieve the same feat, according to WMPoweruser.com.

Windows Phone 7 Marketplace officially launched Oct. 24, with apps ranging in price and type, many selling for around $0.99. Apps in the store are divided into categories such as Social Networking, Maps & Search, Entertainment, and Productivity. The store allows users to browse through these groups, as well as peruse the most popular and newest apps.

It includes apps for many recognizable brands. Twitter, Netflix, and eBay are a few examples of the the ones that are already included in the 1,000-application strong marketplace.

The news comes several days after the Android Market hit 100,000 apps since its 2008 launch with just 34 apps and 9 games. In April, Google announced that there were 38,000 apps in the Android Market; in about six months, it's more than doubled that number.

Despite growth, none of these stores can touch Apple's App Store which reportedly has, more than 300,000 apps.

The Windows Phone 7 line launched Oct. 11, including five devices for users in the U.S. The first phones hit stores on Nov. 8.
