"There's an app for that."

The phrase already conjures up images from Apple's ubiquitous ad campaign, and now, there's a trademark for that. Authors of app parodies, bad jokes, and cheesy puns are now legally bound to attribute the phrase to the Apple, according to TUAW.

Last week, the company successfully secured the rights for use for "retail store services featuring computer software provided the Internet and other computer and electronic communication networks; retail store services featuring computer software for use on handheld mobile digital electronic devices and other consumer electronics." Apple originally filed to legally reserve the phrase on Dec. 4, 2009.

The phrase that promotes the app store has been used since January 2009, according to documents filed by Apple. The trademark was filed in the advertising, business and retail services, computer and software services, and scientific services category. Used to promote the iPhone, iPad, and other iOS devices for nearly two years, others that want to use the phrase for commercial gain must seek Apple's permission.
