 - LifeSigns: Surgical Unit
1.5 Poor

The Bottom Line

Moments of surgical excitement are few and far between in this overwhelmingly dialogue-heavy game.

Pros & Cons

    • The medical examination and surgery minigames are fun, realistic, and challenging.
    • Time in the operating room is scant in comparison to endless dialogue and an uninteresting plot.

Fans of TV medical dramas might find something to enjoy in Lifesigns: Surgical Unit, but those in it for the surgery will have their patience tested. Most of the play time in this game is spent dealing with the personal lives of the doctors and patients, attempting to woo pretty nurses and pediatricians, and playing baffling mini-games like catching fruit, or killing snakes. The actual medical examination and surgery sections of the game are fun, but take too much of a slog through a poorly written plotline to reach—and there's nothing like palpating the chest and abdomen of an anime-styled woman to make you feel like a pervert. For a far better surgical experience on the DS, try Trauma Center: Under the Knife.
