One thing about racing games is they haven't changed much over the years, but what changes there have been have largely been implemented by Nintendo and ignored by everyone else. Nintendo first broke away from the standard turn-brake-accelerate-don't-hit-the-wall formula with MarioKart (or even Excite Bike before that), and now the company has done it again with Excite Truck.

While the PS3 is banking on stellar graphics for games like Ridge Racer and MotorStorm, the gameplay and controls are all too familiar and, frankly, the hyper-realistic graphics are more likely to make you queasy. Excite Truck tosses all that out the window, with serviceable graphics but excellent and intuitive controls using the Wii's remote.

Players hold the remote sideways with both hands, and literally tilt the control right or left to steer, and forward and back to adjust your vehicle's tilt while airborne (like in Excite Bike). The only remaining controls are a Go button and a Turbo button. It's very easy to catch on, and it feels great to be controlling the car with actual arm motion.

Excite Truck also steals from games like those with Tony Hawk, in which players are awarded points for stunts along route. The game awards points not just for placement but also for the gnarliness of the stunts you pull off during the race, making it possible to come in third but rack up enough style points to advance a level.

If there's one downside to Excite Truck, it's that the gameplay might be too easy to hold the interest of hard-core gamers. But for everyone else, Excite Truck is a compelling reason to consider the Wii for your next-gen console.
