I don't care how witty a Twitter quipper you fancy yourself, there is zero possibility your feed is more captivating than astronaut Scott Kelly's has been over the past year during his #YearInSpace.

Last night, Captain Kelly ended an ambitious year-long science experiment (well, 340 days, to be exact) in which he and cosmonaut Mikhail Korniyenko departed from the International Space Station (ISS) and touched down somewhere in Kazakhstan.

The experiment will provide scientists with hard data about the effects of prolonged space missions upon the human body and mind. Kelly, in particular, is a potential goldmine of insight because his vitals can be directly compared and contrasted to those of Mark Kelly, his identical (and decidedly earthbound) twin brother—a natural biological "constant" if you will.

While the mission will undoubtedly offer invaluable scientific insights, most people will connect with the vast library of amazing images Kelly has captured and shared across social media.

Armed with a connection that he describes as being "worse than what dial-up was like," Kelly has been a prolific tweeter (@StationCDRKelly), posting numerous updates daily (and even occasionally responding to queries from the public). The close-ups of our planet from 250 miles up are particularly striking and can often tagged with the apt hashtag, #EarthArt.

We've gone through Kelly's feed over the past year and highlighted some of our favorite images in the attached slideshow (but there are many many many more, which you can check out for yourself). It seems like there's so much going wrong in the world right now, but these images stand as a reminder that humanity can still get things right.
