Zynga has lost its lead as the top Facebook game maker. Last week, Pictionary-like game Draw Something from OMGPOP stole the top spot from Zynga's Words With Friends, numbers from AppData show.

The Facebook app tracking site reveals that Draw Something toppled Words With Friends with 12.2 million daily average users (DAU), compared to Words With Friends' 8 million.

However, Zynga still reigns supreme with when it comes to monthly average users (MAU); CityVille averages 46.1 million in this category. Zynga also tops AppData's developer leaderboard with 246.4 million MAU.

But that hasn't stopped New York-based OMGPOP from making waves. According to TechCrunch, the casual gaming company recently skated past 25 million registered users and a week ago, it was logging 10 million DAU.

However, it's worth noting that these numbers tend to fluctuate. Zynga has consistently commanded a lead in terms of Facebook games, and OMGPOP's leg up could just be a fleeting trend as people are attracted to the game because it's something new.

OMGPOP CEO Dan Porter told Venture Beat that the game has caught fire "because it is a super social, out of the box, hilarious and totally fresh game that players love, has a sense of humor and lets the players own the game."

Venture Beat also noted that it took nine days for the game to generate 10 million drawings, and now it's seeing 3,000 pictures created every second and 10 million each day. The game has been downloaded more than 30 million times, and a total of 1.5 billion drawings have been rendered.

The news comes shortly after Zynga unveiled its new social gaming platform on Zynga.com.

Update: TechCrunch is now reporting that Zynga is in talks to acquire OMGPOP, though the blog noted that discussions are in the early stage and there might be other international buyers interested as well.
