If you thought the silver and gold Mario amiibos were cool, you might flip over Nintendo's latest creations.
Nintendo Inquirer recently got its hands on a promotional email from Nintendo España, which included images (below) of unannounced amiibos, including an (adorably awesome) 8-bit Mario commemorating the beloved character's 30th anniversary. Also pictured is a new line of Animal Crossing figurines, which includes Mabel, Tom Nook, Isabelle, and K.K. Slider.
At this point, there's no word as to when the new amiibos will be available, but we expect to hear more at Nintendo's E3 event, which takes place tomorrow at 9 a.m. PT.
Mario fans last month got a treat when Nintendo released the silver Mario amiibo, which unlike its gold counterpart (a Walmart exclusive), is not tied to a specific retailer. The Mario silver edition amiibo is fully compatible with a number of Wii U and 3DS games, including: Mario Party 10, Super Smash Bros, Mario Kart 8, Hyrule Warriors, Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker, and Ace Combat: Assault Horizon Legacy+.
For the uninitiated, amiibos store game data, so when you touch your amiibo to a Wii U GamePad, character data is downloaded into the game you're playing, or you can send data to the figurine. Recent figures from The NPD Group indicate that Nintendo's amiibos are selling well; the market researcher said gaming accessory sales grew 20 percent last month to $149.3 million, thanks to demand for interactive toys like amiibos, offsetting declines in new physical software and hardware.
That comes after Nintendo apologized for a recent amiibo shortage and promised to be more transparent about their availability.
