Buying Guide: Sound ID 300

Sound ID surprised the wireless industry in 2007 with its SM100 Bluetooth headset. It was a bean-size device that featured good sound quality for its time and a capability that was then unique: environmental audio pass-through. Now the company is back with the top-end Sound ID 300 ($119.99 direct), a slender unit that includes noise cancellation, dual mics, automatic volume control to compensate for background noise, and PersonalSound, a feature that lets you select from three enhancement levels to improve the listening experience. On my tests, I found the 300 to be a very nice headset, but one that doesn't quite measure up to the class-leading Aliph Jawbone Prime and Plantronics Voyager Pro in voice transmissions.
