Popular iPhone game Temple Run is coming to Android on March 27, Imangi Studios announced on Tuesday.

Temple Run, which is one of the top grossing and top free apps in the Apple App Store, will be free to download from the Android Market.

"We are excited to finally share the Android release date with our fans who have been so enthusiastic and supportive of Temple Run," Imangi Studios co-founder, Keith Shepherd, said in a statement. "By expanding to more mobile devices, we hope to provide the same addictive and fast-paced gameplay to entirely new group of players."

Since its debut last August, the iOS version of Temple Run has been downloaded more than 40 million times, Imangi said. It's currently the seventh most-popular free game in the App Store.

The game centers around a group of characters trying to steal gold coins while dodging obstacles and evading a group of demonic monkeys.

The Android Market at the beginning of the year soared past the 400,000 app mark, according to a January report from Distimo. It took less than a year for it to double the number of apps available; it hit 200,000 apps in April.

Google on Tuesday made an Android-related announcement - it has upped the size limit on Android apps from 50MB to 4GB. However, it stressed that in many cases, smaller apps are better because they're easy to download.
