Amazon Prime Video is finally rolling out viewer profiles to everyone. Subscribers can now create up to six personal dossiers per account, making it easier to separate your entertainment preferences from the rest of the household.
Access respective recommendations, season progress, and watchlists based on individual activity, rather than one giant pool of viewing history. Rewatching Smash while your partner catches up on Mr. Robot? Setting up personal profiles should clean up the interface and offer a better experience for both of you.
Following a trial run earlier this year in Asia and Africa, Amazon is rolling out the feature globally. Prime members can expect an email about the update with more information on how to add up to six profiles—one primary plus five additional—on a single Amazon account. Parents can assign a profile to children, or simply tap into the default Kids option (suitable for those 12 and under). Just like on rival streaming platforms Netflix, Hulu, and Disney+, each Prime Video profile is identified by the user's name and a different color avatar.
Profile management is supported on Android and iOS devices, Fire tablets, the Prime Video app on Fire TV, Chromecast, select Apple TVs, and web browsers. Don't try creating, editing, or deleting profiles on the Fire TV home screen, Alexa speakers with a screen, ninth-generation or older Fire tablets, or any other smart home products, though.
If you're really paranoid about people seeing what you've been binging, but can't be bothered to sign up for a separate Prime contract, simply turn off profile sharing to keep your data private. However, keep in mind that once you turn sharing off, you can't re-enable it.
