When Sony announced that its next games console would arrive in time for the holidays this year, nobody knew that 2020 would also be the year that gave us coronavirus. However, we apparently shouldn't worry about the PlayStation 5 launch being delayed.

As GamesRadar reports, Sony Interactive Entertainment uses the public relations agency BAAS, which is located in Amsterdam. When asked about any impact COVID-19 has had on the preparations for the launch of the PS5, the agency stated, "coronavirus has not yet delayed the launch of the PlayStation 5 for the time being."

While such news may be reassuring for gamers eager to get their hands on Sony's new console, the statement sounds far from definite. For one, it's a statement by Sony's PR agency and not a Sony employee. Mark Cerny stating there's no delay would be ideal, for example. Then there's the wording, which includes "not yet" and "for the time being."

There's every chance both the PS5 and the Xbox Series X could still hit their holiday launch windows. After all, we're still at least six months away from the window opening and coronavirus first appeared in areas of the world where console manufacturing is concentrated, which suggests those areas can and will recover from it first.

For now, we can all just stay at home and hope while being teased by Microsoft and Sony with detailed information regarding what their new machines are capable of.
