CX

CX (CX.com) is a freemium file-syncing service that currently offers the most free space of any major service: 10GB (SugarSync offers 5GB; Dropbox offers 2GB), although the company website says giving away this amount of space is a limited-time offer.

CX, which is available as desktop software for Windows XP/7/Vista and Mac OS (an Ubuntu app is supposedly being discussed) also offers a very nice online dashboard where you can access your account.

Uploading files to the online dashboard is extremely easy. On a desktop or laptop, it's just a matter of dragging files into a folder that's marked for syncing (or turning on syncing for a folder).

Some sharing features are available, although it's easiest when you share files with other CX users. If you want to share with people without asking them to sign up for the free service, you have to make a file public, then copy and paste a link to share. When you share with other CX users (or require your colleagues to sign up), sharing becomes a simpler process with just a few clicks to get the job done.

Upon installing the software to run CX on your computer, you can select folders that you want to sync. You can also use the CX Sync folder that's created when you start up the software.

Preferences in the software let you see how much space you're using versus free space available. It's also the place to turn when you want to add new folders to sync, as you can't enable syncing just by right-clicking on any folder, as you can with SugarSync.

The desktop app is minimal and hardly seen. It works pretty seamlessly. From the desktop app, you can always lauch the website to use the online dashboard instead, which is very clean and easy to use.
