The most popular streaming media devices on the market just got a makeover.

Roku on Monday rolled out a slew of updates aimed at making it easier for you to find and discover new content. The company also introduced a new-and-improved Roku 3 player with voice search as well as performance updates for the Roku 2.

Roku 3For starters, there's a new "Roku Feed," which lets you follow popular in-theater movies and get updates about when they become available to stream. The feed will also tell you when movies you follow become available from additional streaming channels or change in price. This feature can be found under the My Feed tab on the TV's home screen.

Besides that, there's a new way to find specific channels. You can now search within the Roku Channel Store by streaming channel name, which should speed up the process of locating favorites like CBS News, HBO GO, Sling TV, or any of the more than 2,000 available channels. Roku says it now has 250,000 movies and TV shows available for streaming.

Roku just started rolling out these new features to all current-generation players and Roku TV models. The update is expected to make its way to all devices by the end of the month, so if you don't see these new features right away just sit tight.

Meanwhile, the new Roku 3 player with voice search lets you look for what you want to watch with just your voice. The $99.99 player comes with a new remote control that features a button to activate voice search, a headphone hack to enable private listening, and motion control to play casual games.

The Roku 2 also got an upgrade with some speed and performance improvements that should bring it in line the Roku 3. Priced at $69.99, the new Roku 2 player is aimed at those who want to watch video and music without the new Roku 3 enhanced remote. Both new boxes are available today from retailers nationwide.

Finally, Roku has also upgraded its mobile apps, bringing support for the new search and discovery features unveiled today. The new version is now available for Android, and is expected to arrive on iOS later this week.

"With the biggest lineup of streaming channels available, the most comprehensive and unbiased search, and new ways to discover new movies, Roku players make it simple for consumers to stream the entertainment they want to watch on their terms," Roku Founder and CEO Anthony Wood said in a statement. "Now with a fast and fun way to search by voice, we've made the Roku 3 — the best streaming player on the market — even better."

My Experience

I'm PCMag's managing editor for consumer electronics, overseeing an experienced team of analysts covering smart home, home entertainment, wearables, fitness and health tech, and various other product categories. I have been with PCMag for more than 10 years, and in that time have written more than 6,000 articles and reviews for the site. I previously served as an analyst focused on smart home and wearable devices, and before that I was a reporter covering consumer tech news. I'm also a yoga instructor, and have been actively teaching group and private classes for nearly a decade.

Prior to joining PCMag, I was a reporter for SC Magazine, focusing on hackers and computer security. I earned a BS in journalism from West Virginia University, and started my career writing for newspapers in New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and West Virginia.

The Technology I Use

My little Florida beach bungalow is brimming with smart home tech. I have a smart speaker or display in every room, allowing me to control other connected devices by voice. The Nest Hub on my bedside table lets me set wake-up alarms, control my smart light bulbs, and set the temperature on my smart thermostat. I use the Amazon Echo Show 8 on my kitchen counter to browse recipes, reorder protein powder, check the weather, and watch the news while I do dishes.

Because I suffer from allergies, air purifiers are essential. My favorite model is the Dyson Purifier Cool TP07, which doubles as a fan and continuously sends indoor pollution data to its companion mobile app.

My pitbull Bradley sheds, so a good robot vacuum is a must. I currently use a premium Ecovacs Deebot that can both vacuum and mop, empty its own dustbin, and wash its own mop cloth.

For fitness, I like to mix up my routine with cycling, indoor rowing, running, and strength training in addition to yoga. I take classes on the Tonal 2 smart strength training machine, I row indoors on an Aviron machine, and track my beach runs with an Apple Watch while listening to music on my Apple AirPods Pro. On the weekends, I love riding e-bikes like the rugged, beach-friendly Aventon Aventure for fun and fitness.

My job involves a lot of virtual meetings, so a quality webcam, microphone, and ring light are important. I use the Jabra PanaCast 20 webcam, the Elgato Wave: 3 microphone, and a Yesker tripod ring light.

As for my preferred phone platform, I'm an iPhone person, but I've also extensively used Android for product testing.
