Samsung's newest audio updates should make its Galaxy devices work better together.

Generally, this software drop—which rolls out later this month—is aimed at the Galaxy Buds 2 Pro, Buds 2, and Buds FE.

First up is the Interpreter feature, which lets you use a Galaxy S24 series phone in conjunction with Galaxy Buds for more natural communication. When the two devices are paired, you'll be able to hear the translation of whoever is speaking in your ear, while the other person hears your translated statements through the speaker of the phone. This would eliminate the need to pass the phone back and forth between the two people. Additionally, the order of the languages can be switched by using the Buds directly instead of changing settings on the phone.

If you've ever wanted to be able to have multiple headphones sync to one audio source, you should get excited because Auracast support is coming to several Samsung phones and tablets. With this technology enabled, you could have several pairs of Bluetooth headphones connected to a single phone or television.

The update will allow the Galaxy S24 series, the S23 series, Z Fold 5, Z Flip 5, and Tab S9 series to broadcast sound using Auracast (as long as they are running One UI 6.1). Devices that can listen to an Auracast broadcast include that previous list and adds more devices like the Z Fold 4, Z Flip 4, and A54 5G with One UI 5.1.1. or above. This kind of feature should be useful in places like an airport or a gym when you want to tune into the audio of a specific television.

Samsung is also bringing its Auto Switch feature to more Galaxy devices. This lets you do things like listen to a TV, answer a call from your phone, and go back to the TV audio seamlessly. Look for it on Galaxy Book series laptops with One UI 6.0 or above with Galaxy Buds 2 Pro. This feature does require you to be signed into a Samsung Account to work.

In a little more TV news, an update will bring 360 Audio to some Samsung TVs so you can use Galaxy Buds2 Pro or Buds2 with certain Samsung TVs for immersive audio and head tracking. For a full list of what televisions are supported, check out this post.

My Experience

I've been into technology for as long as I can remember. As a PCMag mobile writer, I get to test the newest phones and tablets. Since you rely on our buying advice, I make sure you get everything a manufacturer claims, which means lots of testing. This is your phone we're talking about; it's like a part of you. I've covered technology as a career for around two decades (yikes, I had to think about that). You've seen my work at The Apple Blog, PCMag (from my first go around), This Week in Tech, and CNET. I also occasionally produce independent video projects, including This Old Nerd, a how-to series that shows practical ways to get the most from your tech.

The Technology I Use

I use a 2023 M3 MacBook Pro customized with lots of keyboard shortcuts thanks to Raycast. Pixelmator Pro is my go-to photo editing application because there is no subscription, and I'm trapped with Evernote because I've used it forever.

I'm between phones at the moment, but I use a Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 now, and used a Z Fold 6 before that. Considering that I like to have multiple windows open at once, the large inner screen of folding phones can show a baseball game on the top while I keep a chat app and Reddit open beneath. I do miss being able to write on the Z Fold 7's screen, though, which has me eyeing a Galaxy S25 Ultra.

My home is semi-smart, with many Google Home products that I thoroughly enjoyed in the pre-Gemini days. Be warned: smart bulbs are a gateway drug into smart home life.
