When it comes to watching TV or movies at home, there’s nothing more irritating than a subpar audio experience from your television, especially when your TV has the volume all the way up and still isn’t loud enough. If that's the predicament you find yourself in, fear no more! Amazon Prime Day 2024 is almost here and will feature a slew of deals on Soundbars, which our in-house home theater expert says are your “best bet” for getting “loud, high-quality audio for your home theater.” The best part is you don’t have to wait until Prime Day! Early deals have already begun to pop up.

When purchasing a soundbar, our experts have this to say, “There are some things to consider before making your new purchase: Brand is important, as some soundbars are more compatible with TVs of a similar brand. LG doesn’t tend to play well with Sony, for example (a fact I learned the hard way when I purchased my LG C3 OLED).” With that in mind, here are some of the best Pre-Prime Day deals you can find right now on soundbars.

The JBL Bar 5.1 is a lightweight surround sound system that offers “‘multibeam’ technology in an attempt to fill the room with immersive, theater-like audio,” according to our review. The Bar’s compatibility with AirPlay and Google Chromecast means that you will also be able to connect your smartphone to the speaker if you want to listen to some tunes while you get your Sunday cleaning situated.

If you’re looking for a cheaper alternative to the Bar, the Sony HTX8500 is currently available at a lower cost than the Bar. If you’re a diehard PlayStation player who wants to stick with Sony, this Dolby Atmos powered soundbar will help you make the most of your PlayStation’s newly added compatibility with Dolby Atmos.

For those hoping for a decent budget-friendly soundbar, the Samsung HW-B550 may be worth considering. It comes with a built-in adaptive sound feature that analyzes what you are watching and adjusts the EQ profile accordingly. If you are watching a movie and want to quickly switch to a sports game or the news, this feature promises to allow you to forget about changing the sound profile and still get an enjoyable listening experience.

My Experience

Prior to interning with PCMag, I attended the Craig Newmark Graduate School of Journalism for two semesters and will graduate in December, 2024. During my time at the J-school I gained a lot of experience filing Freedom of Information Act requests. Prior to starting my internship with PCMag, I filed over a dozen Freedom of Information Law requests across New York State. I’m also a big fan of interactive news stories with neat visualizations.

Before attending J-School, I was a student at SUNY Old Westbury where I was a contributor to the school newspaper and a safety aid for the University Police Department. As an intern with PCMag, I cover tech news, write feature stories, and carefully craft how-to guides and reviews of consumer electronics.

My Areas of Interest

I have many interests and areas of knowledge, but I don’t consider myself an expert in most things. I pay close attention to national politics and international affairs, and recently began following New York City politics.

When I have free time, you can usually find me gaming, watching a documentary, enjoying a cup of coffee, or going on a long walk. I grew up playing video games on consoles, but I got my first gaming PC in 2020 and have never looked back. My favorite PC-exclusive games are FiveM, Arma Reforger, and Squad—but these days, I mainly play Arma Reforger.

The Technology I Use

Most days you can find me jumping back and forth between my MacBook Pro and my desktop PC, an Alienware Aurora R10. Under the hood, it has 32GB of RAM, a Ryzen 7 3800x CPU, and an AMD Radeon RX 5700 XT graphics card. I originally wanted to have a computer built, but my brother and I both got our PCs in 2020 and therefore had to split the computer budget between us, so we compromised and I got the prebuilt PC.
