Rumors over the last week have suggested Sony plans to stop releasing popular PlayStation 5 games on PC, and a new report from Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier adds further fuel to the fire.
Citing anonymous sources, Schreier says exclusive PS5 single-player titles will no longer come to PC at a later date, as Sony has done since 2020. It recently paused plans to bring the samurai action game Ghost of Yotei to PC after a successful launch on PS5 in October, he says.
Plans may change later, but for now, Sony will keep single-player games exclusive to the PS5. Bloomberg says this won't affect previously announced PC releases, including Death Stranding 2 and Kena: Scars of Kosmora, or online titles like Marathon or Marvel Tokon.
Sony declined to comment, but Bloomberg notes that some within Sony’s business believe releasing its top titles on PC may dilute the brand and hurt console sales.
Since 2020, many of PlayStation’s biggest exclusive games have come to PC months or, in some cases, years after their initial release. We’ve seen titles such as Days Gone, God of War Ragnarok, Horizon Forbidden West, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart, Returnal, and many others playable on PC in recent years.
If true, this may mean PC gamers won’t be able to play upcoming games like Marvel’s Wolverine from Insomniac Games or Saros from the developers behind Returnal. It may also mean Naughty Dog’s upcoming Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet will remain locked to PlayStation hardware.
