One of the best PlayStation Plus benefits for PS5 owners is set to disappear on May 9.

The PlayStation Plus Collection offers 20 PS4 classic games for free through PlayStation Plus, but only on PS5. Sony announced the collection ahead of the PS5 launch back in November 2020 and made it available soon after, but come May, it's being removed as a benefit.

Chris Schilling, deputy editor of Edge magazine, shared a message from Sony confirming the end of the offer in a tweet. The message reads:

"The PlayStation Plus Collection is closing. From 9 May the PlayStation Plus Collection will no longer be available as a PlayStation Plus benefit. You can add any of the titles from the PlayStation Plus Collection to your Game Library before 9 May and play at any time in the future with an active PlayStation Plus membership."

No other benefits are changing, but any PS5 owners with an active Plus subscription should grab the games while they still can. The titles included in the collection are:

  • Batman: Arkham Knight
  • Battlefield 1
  • Bloodborne
  • Call of Duty: Black Ops III – Zombies Chronicles Edition
  • Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy
  • Days Gone
  • Detroit: Become Human
  • Fallout 4
  • Final Fantasy XV Royal Edition
  • God of War
  • Infamous Second Son
  • Monster Hunter: World
  • Mortal Kombat X
  • Persona 5
  • Ratchet and Clank
  • Resident Evil 7 biohazard
  • The Last Guardian
  • The Last of Us Remastered
  • Until Dawn
  • Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End

If you don't have an active PlayStation Plus subscription, but are planning to sign up, then you can also claim the PlayStation Plus Collection as long as your subscription goes live before May 9. Once claimed, you just need to keep the membership active and the PS4 games will remain in your library and playable.

Sony hasn't offered an explanation as to why the games are set to disappear. However, half of them are from third-party publishers and developers, so this benefit is costing Sony some money every month it's available.

The decision to drop this benefit comes just after Sony revealed it should be much easier to purchase a PS5 console now, regardless of where you are in the world. The days of Sony struggling to keep up with demand and scalpers buying up all available stock seems to be well and truly behind us.
