You can bring up lists of on-demand content through the Shows and Movies tabs in the app.

The top row of the app is What's On Now, displaying logos or freeze frames of live shows you can tune into, along with the name of the episode and a logo of the network.

Channels loaded after only a second or two, and generally appeared blurry for five to 15 additional seconds as the stream adjusted quality based on bandwidth. Once the stream cleared up, the picture was consistently crisp and smooth.

On-demand content is available on DirecTV Now, but it varies based on the show and network.

If you want a more conventional viewing experience, you can access a grid-based program guide that will show you all of the channels you subscribe to and what's currently on them, with upcoming shows and movies you can scroll through based on the time.
