Password-keeper 1Password is making it easier for families to secure their data.

Develope AgileBits said on Wednesday that families can now sign up for its new 1Password for Families platform. The service will cost $5 per month for a family of five, and allow users to store unlimited passwords, credit cards, secure, notes, and other data. It also includes 1GB of free document storage.

Those who sign up before March 21, however, can get two months of 1Password for Families for free (existing users will get $10 added to their accounts), an extra 1GB of storage, and the ability to invite up to seven family members. The extra storage and family members perks are valid for the life of your account.

1Password is essentially a digital password locker where users can store all kinds of critical information. The app, which is available on Windows and Mac, as well as Android and iOS, has options for consumers and business users. The families option actually arose after Agilebits founder David Teare shared last month that he used the business-focused 1Password for Teams with his family.

"Many of you were excited to sign up your family and asked if we'd have special pricing available," he wrote in a blog post. "Families are near and dear to our hearts, so we wanted to find a way to make 1Password affordable and accessible for all families everywhere."

Why use it? Teare pointed to a few scenarios where 1Password for Families would come in handy. If you changed your Netflix password, for example, family members would be alerted automatically in a secure fashion. It can also assist less tech-savvy family members since the sync feature is built in and "just works," he said.
