Buying Guide: Slacker for BlackBerry

RIM has been going to great lengths to present its BlackBerry smartphones as complete multimedia devices that can go toe-to-toe with the Apple iPhone 3G. Reality, ever the impolite intruder—has diverged a bit from marketing, though. Happily, the new Slacker for BlackBerry (Basic, free; Premium, $3.99 monthly) Internet Radio application goes a long way toward closing the gap. Slacker for BlackBerry lets you stream Slacker.com radio stations wirelessly or cache them on a memory card so you can listen to music when you don't have a signal. The service is available only for phones with BlackBerry OS 4.3 or later (think Curve and Bold), but if you carry one of those devices, this is an application well worth downloading.
