Steve Jobs has officially given in to the idea of running Windows on a Mac. Apple Boot Camp (Public Beta) is Apple's own version of dual booting Windows XP on an Intel based Mac, and it's now available for download on the Apple site. This download isn't for hacker-types; arguably its best feature is the user-friendly interface that lets average joes and janes dual-boot with ease. Apple successfully addresses BIOS issues and adds driver support for speakers and the video card, which will bring plenty of excitement to the gaming community. Boot Camp doesn't come without disclaimers: not everything works and your Windows partition will be open to virus attacks.
There was already speculation about official support for Windows with Apple joining BAPCO, a Window's-based benchmarking company, and after two programmers figured out how to boot Windows on a Mac (which we emulated here in the labs, too), the Boot Camp download was the next logical step, if only to drive sales. Apple has already indicated that it will not provide technical support for the Windows platform on a Mac, which might cause some concern for the non-tech-savvy community. However, Microsoft will support software issues, not Mac hardware issues, assuming you have a licensed copy of
