Pros & Cons

At less than $100, PhotoImpact 7 includes a full-featured photo editor, a first-rate cataloging program, tools for creating Web graphics, and numerous special-effects filters. PhotoImpact's interface is complex but well organized, and it includes one-click fixes for common tasks. A clever postprocessing wizard walks you through a series of image correction tasks, including image straightening and color correction. PhotoImpact is one of the first image editors to support the new JPEG 2000 format, which uses wavelet compression to provide better image quality than conventional JPEG files at higher compression levels. JPEG 2000 also includes a lossless storage format, which prevents image degradation from multiple image-editing sessions.
