Pros & Cons

Though Jasc Software's Paint Shop Pro isn't as ubiquitous as Adobe PhotoShop, it has amassed a large, devoted following—and for good reason. Jasc identified the enthusiast market years before Adobe did, and built a program with a complete set of image-editing tools and effects. But Paint Shop Pro's interface still may be intimidating for novices. Rather than providing automated quick fixes for such tasks as removing red eye and correcting color balance, Paint Shop Pro gives you plenty of control to do such procedures yourself. The special 10th Anniversary Edition includes Paint Shop Pro 7, Jasc's Media Center Plus image organizer, Animation Shop for creating animated images, and a bundle of effects and filters.
