Meta has long enabled you to cross-post between Facebook and Instagram, and it's now extending that functionality to Threads on Android and iOS.

After a months-long test, the option is now live across Meta's social platforms, TechCrunch reports. You can choose to always have things cross-post or opt-in each time.

To cross-post from Facebook, prepare a post like you normally would. Above the text box, you'll see several share options, one of which is the Threads logo (pictured above). Tap that box, enable crossposting to Threads, and it will post to Facebook and Threads when you're ready.

It's a similar process on Instagram. Start by preparing a new post. Select an image and hit Next. Select a filter on the next screen and hit Next again. On the Share page, scroll down and tap Advanced settings. There, you'll find an Automatic sharing setting that lets you post your Instagram posts to Facebook and Threads.

Since the three platforms have different functions, not every element will show up when you cross-post. As TechCrunch notes, the caption from an Instagram post will show up as the text on Threads and any hashtags will become plain text. You also can't cross-post Reels or videos.

Meta experimented with displaying curated Threads content on Facebook and Instagram to promote its Twitter alternative. After some backlash from people who didn't want their Facebook friends to see their thoughts from Threads, Meta let Threads users opt out of having their posts show up on Instagram and Facebook.

Threads recently crossed the 200 million users mark. Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg wants to eventually drive 1 billion users to Threads, although he expects such growth to take years.

Hello, my name is Joe and I am a tech blogger. My first real experience with tech came at the tender age of 6 when I started playing Final Fantasy IV (II on the SNES) on the family's living room console. As a teenager, I cobbled together my first PC build using old parts from several ancient PCs, and really started getting into things in my 20s. I served in the US Army as a broadcast journalist. Afterward, I served as a news writer for XDA-Developers before I spent 11 years as an Editor, and eventually Senior Editor, of Android Authority. I specialize in gaming, mobile tech, and PC hardware, but I enjoy pretty much anything that has electricity running through it.
