It looks like Donald Trump might be headed back to Twitter.
Despite being reinstated by Elon Musk, Donald Trump has been quiet on Twitter, now X, which banned him following the Jan. 6, 2021 attack on the US Capitol. Since November 2022, he has only posted once, on Aug. 23, 2023, to share his mug shot photo along with a link to his website where supporters could donate money to his campaign.
Now, it looks like X might be hosting a town hall with the former president and now felon.
Musk retweeted a New York Post story on the rumored town hall with the comment "This will be interesting," seemingly confirming that the town hall is happening.
On Thursday, a jury convicted Trump on 34 felony charges involving falsifying business records. After the verdict, Musk defended Trump, saying Friday morning that “great damage was done” to the “public’s faith in the American legal system.”
He later added "Hard to view this as anything other than abuse of the law for political purposes."
No date has been announced for the potential town hall. In addition to the town hall with Trump, rumors point to X also hosting a town hall with long-shot Independent candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. ahead of the November election.
For now, Trump is scheduled to debate President Biden on CNN on June 27. A second debate on ABC is currently scheduled for Sept. 10.
Musk has hosted other political candidates this election season, most notably a glitchy presidential campaign announcement for Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis on Spaces. The Republican hopeful later dropped out.
